Our guest speaker this month will be Jim Gunderson. Here’s a teaser about his talk:
Scientific Diving is the use of Scuba to conduct scientific research in a marine or fresh water environment. Projects can range from coral studies, to fish studies, to geological and archaeological research. Essentially anything that is in the water can be scientifically studied. In conducting oceanological (salt water) or limnologic (fresh water) studies, divers are often used to take observations, measurements and other scientific data in fulfillment of a given research project. This presentation will cover some of the generalities of scientific diving, what diving qualifications are needed, discuss many of the common research techniques used and how to become involved in scientific diving either as a volunteer or as a career opportunity.
Each month, AVDD hosts general meetings on the second Monday at 7pm. Meetings typically run about an hour and include announcements of upcoming events, a presentation on an interesting dive-related topic, and a fun raffle. Check back here for more information on this month’s speaker!
The meeting will be in-person at the Palmdale Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Highway, Palmdale, CA. It will also be hosted over Zoom. Members will receive an email with the instructions to join the Zoom meeting when the date gets closer. For non-members who wish to join the meeting, please email your inquiry to avdesertdive@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you there!
